North of Demopolis, AL; November 4, 2011

Seeing the weather heron in the morning means its a good day to travel

The white cliffs at Epes, AL come into view

Left bank remains the same - right bank changes dramatically

White "Selma Chalk" eroded into fantastic shapes

Third day in a row seeing deer swim across the river -
don't know if its coming or going, but they swim fast!

Gainesville, AL; November 3, 2011

We tried to beat the weather, but got stuck at Heflin lock due to barge traffic.
We tested our rain gear as we locked through in the pouring rain.
So, our four mile day got us wet, but put us in a place with internet - Yeah!

Warm and dry just below the Heflin Lock

Sumter Landing, Alabama; November 2, 2011

Sumter Landing is a public recreation area with
excellent wind protection from all directions.
....'course the weather report was wrong and there wasn't any wind,
nor net connection, but it was a cozy and a good place to read a book.

One of the many Ox-Bow entrances

FYI: An Ox-Bow is a U-shaped bend that meanders off the main river.
Sometimes a good place to anchor, but often shallow and full of snags.

Still Tenn-Tom'in it

The river banks aren't as steep and bare.
Trees and bushes are growing down to the waters edge.

Sweet Home Alabama ; November 1, 2011

Pretty Oxbow made a good stop for your short day.

Bevill Lock; 27' drop
We usually don't move in the fog, but we were close by and could
hear them preparing the lock, so peddled over.

This part of the Tenn-Tom is natural river with a lot of bends.

Always take the bends on the inside in case a tow is coming.

We were surprised to see another deer swim across the river.

We spent most of the day following the river curves and going
back and forth between Mississippi and Alabama

Near Columbus, MS ; October 30, 2011

Entering the "maze of islands" part of the Tenn-Tom

Frost on the boat this morning -
leaves are coming down fast

In a hurry to get that bass!
We are seeing islands and coves with snags

Aberdeen Lock:  27' drop
