Whats for dinner??? April 27, 2012

NOT Mullet!

The water was full of big mullet's -
We watched kids catching them with a net,
but its harder than it looks!

Try from the bow....

Try from the dingy!

The egret ended up with a mullet - no net.

Creepy Crawlies; April 18, 2012

Looks soft, but its hard on both sides!
This pic shows its mouth in the middle.
Crazy, hey?

Crab caught for bait to use for fishing for red fish
They are a popular fish in Florida and can get really big.

Hermit crabs of all sizes were all around the shore

This heron hangs around the dock all day

.....and night

More work and lots to look at; April 13, 2012

A marina with free laundry!
  everything got washed !

Captain Matt improved the steering by attaching metal guides that move the engine along with the rudder.

Rope line coming from the rudder stock will move
the engine and rudder at the same time.

In preparation for a big festival,
this school teacher also does chain saw art.

Jolly Roger's carved from wood
Did you know that flags were an important signal in the 17th and 18th century?
Plain black flag was meant to frighten victims into surrendering if they didn't fight.
If you saw a red flag on a pirates ship and surrendered and wouldn't be slaughtered.....and of course you could trust a pirate!
The Jolly Roger flag with skull and cross-bones was alleged to be the toughest of pirates. To read more about pirates and see some crazy flags, click on this link.

Another thing to watch were boats being put in and taken out of the water. This one is on a fork lift.

They used big straps to put this boat in

No boat ramps around here
On the other side of the dock, these jet skiers were getting instructions. Going to the surrounding islands is big business here.

Nothing bothers the love birds :)

Whistle while you work: April 12, 2012

HI - HO - HI - HO.....its' off to work we go

We took the Dingy off the deck and plan on towing it for easier access to shore.

Installing a Samson post for strong towing capacity and extra places to tie off at docks.
Wish I would have gotten a picture of the Cap inside the fuel locker attaching the pole.

Scrubbing life ring and fenders.

We have our own Eco-system!
Spraying the under the water sides, loosened the gunk and the fish loved it.

Regular old duck.... funny part was watching the Captain trying to get it to fly or at least turn it's head.
Now, that would have been a picture!

Sprouting seeds; April 7, 2012

Making mung beans today.
We usually have mung, alfalfa, or a salad mix going most of the time.

You start by soaking the seed overnight in water.

After the first soaking, you keep the beans covered
 and rinse twice a day.

When the seeds sprout, they outgrown their cover.....and they are getting close to eating.

Ready to have the roots cut off

Rinse and get ready for a nutritional snack.

Delicious raw on a wrap or added to a stir fry.

Try it...you'll like it!
