We are at the Delaware City Marina waiting for good weather before moving on.

C&D Canal; May 13, 2011

Elk River - Back Creek - C&D Canal - Delaware River

A good use for floating debris

In this two story white house, the Corps' dispatcher's manage canal operations through closed circuit TV and radio.

These white blooming trees lined the banks on both sides of the canal - very strong sweet fragrace

Bye-Bye Chesapeake Bay; May 12, 2011

We spent 13 days on the Chesapeake Bay and didn't get to explore any of the tributary rivers!

We will definitely be back!

Leaving the Chesapeake Bay.

We turned into the Elk River which will take us through the C&D canal and on to the Delaware Bay.

Rock Hall, MD;May 11, 2011

Crossed the Bay to the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake today. 

Next we are headed to the Chesapeake / Delaware Canal and then into the Delaware Bay.

Thomas Point Shoal lighthouse near Annapolis, Maryland.
It is listed as a National Historic Landmark.

The Bay bridges parallel each other and span over four miles. They connect the Eastern and Western Shore near Annapolis. The first was built in 1952 and the second in 1973.

Herring Bay, MD just off the Chesapeake Bay; May 10, 2011

Looking east towards the Chesapeake Bay. The buoy is a shoal warning for 2 miles of shallow water. 

Traveled though narrow parts of the Chesapeake today where you could see land on both side.
This side had tall and rugged looking cliffs

The other side of the Bay had clusters of trees and some sandy beaches

We saw several fishing boats pulling nets

This is a busy fishing area. You have to be on the lookout for buoy's with flags.
They are marking a fish net.

Sometimes you have to alter your course to steer clear of the big ships.

Looks like a small work barge, but we weren't sure.

Not old enough to be an antique, but plenty old to have a few quirks !

We watched this hyper bird fly in and out of a hole in a piling next to the boat. It flew in and out so fast that it was next to impossible to get a picture or figure out what kind of bird it was.

This little bird looks like an Eastern Bluebird.

Looks like birds are bringing food back to the nest and we could hear little peeps as we were going by.
