Smooth waters as we left the anchorage this morning |
Lock 8 - Percy Reach; Lift:19 Feet Gates were closed as we approached |
You tie up on the blue line and wait for the lock-master's instructions |
Water came rushing out as the Lock was emptying |
Lots of maple trees along the way |
Leaving Lock 8 |
Follow the channel markers - Red on the right |
Lock 9 - Meyers; Lift:15 Feet Gates were open - after the first lock, they ask how far you are going and then phone ahead so the locks are ready |
Lock-Master house built in 1914 |
Our beam is 8 '2"feet so we only needed one gate opened |
Lock 10 - Haig's Reach; Lift:24 Feet |
Inside is loud - in a hole with a waterfall! Then it gets whisper quiet as the water comes up. |
Downstream gates are much larger and require hydraulics to open |
Approaching Lock's 11 and 12 |
Lock 11 and 12 - Ranney Falls; Total lift: 48 Feet This is called Flight Locks because two locks are joined together to handle a large change in water level. |
We are half way up. |
Lock-master said there were boats locking downstream and to tie up and wait for instructions |
Our turn to go into the second half of the lock |
Up 106 feet today - we need a nap, eh? |
